Pharmacogenetics Research Network

Research Network

The Pharmacogenetics Research Network is a nationwide research effort sponsored by NIGMS and other NIH components that resulted from a 1998 recommendation by an NIGMS Pharmacogenetics Working Group. The network is a collaborative series of groups of scientists studying the effects of genes on people's responses to a wide variety of medicines. They are helping to create a pharmacogenetics knowledge base, the PharmGKB.

Governing Structure of the PGRN, 2000-2003
A steering committee oversees the conduct of the NIH Pharmacogenetics Research Network. This is the original operating structure, with periodic turnover in leadership.

External Scientific Panel for the PGRN, 2003-2005
The ESP was created in 2003, and is a standing group with which the network interacts to obtain advice. The purpose of the group is to assist the investigators in thinking broadly and to help push the science forward.

Interest Groups of the PGRN, 2003-2005
The Interest Groups provide the focal points for scientific discussions in the Research Network. This structure was conceived by the network in 2002, and is being tested.

Industry Input
NIGMS has solicited pharmaceutical industry perspective on pharmacogenetics research. Expressions of interest are accepted at any time.
